The Information Sciences Section -created in the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences 1986 at the same time as the Information Sciences Specialty-, groups together the teachers of this specialty and organizes them to meet the demand of the units that request their courses, as well as other teaching activities.
The Section periodically organizes academic events. Its professors attend congresses and seminars both in the country and abroad and develop research in areas such as training and labor market in information sciences, information technologies, and access to and use of information. The Section also maintains agreements with cultural institutions and has published the Temas de Bibliotecología e Información series since 1997.
The coordinator of the Librarianship and Information Science professors in the Department of Humanities is Professor Edilberto Casado.
