The Philosophy Section was created in 1970 as part of the Department of Humanities, but as a specialty it was part of the Faculty of Letters with which the Catholic University was founded in 1917.
The Section is made up of philosophy professors who teach philosophy courses in all faculties of the university. It is made up of 18 regular professors, 16 of whom hold PhDs in Philosophy from universities in Germany, the United States, Belgium and Peru.
Teaching activity
In addition to the regular teaching of courses, the professors organize a rich program of activities through the Center for Philosophical Studies and regularly publish two journals in the field: Areté and Estudios de Filosóficos.
Some of them also hold leadership positions in philosophical associations and international institutes, such as the Institute of Democracy and Human Rights, the Inter-American Society of Philosophy, the Latin American Center of Phenomenology, the International Network of Intercultural Studies and the Latin American Association of Ancient Philosophy.
