Presentation

The Academic Department of Humanities is the community of teachers responsible for the cultivation and training in the humanities at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and heir to the humanist tradition that has characterised our university since its beginnings.

The Department was founded in 1969, in accordance with the university law of the time, but its origins go back to the history of the Faculty of Arts, which was the first academic unit of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. In the beginning, the Department brought together professors from the History, Philosophy, Linguistics and Literature, Psychology and Social Work sections. During the 1980s, it also included professors from the sections of Archaeology, Geography and Library and Information Science.

The department is responsible for the teaching of the corresponding courses in the units of the university that request them. In addition to regular and contract lecturers, it welcomes visiting lecturers. It has a teaching staff of high academic quality, which is reflected in internationally recognised research projects and publications.

It also promotes the continuous improvement of its professors, research, cooperation and exchange with other universities and institutions, forming part of prestigious national and foreign academic networks. It is also a unit where interdisciplinary work is developed, oriented towards reflection and understanding of human beings and their culture.
