The Linguistics and Literature section was created in 1970 together with the Department of Humanities. The professors who comprise it are researchers graduated from prestigious Peruvian and foreign universities, with a deep academic knowledge of the field of studies. This is reflected in the diversity of research interests and the different theoretical approaches that frame their work. Beyond the strictly academic sphere, conscious of their commitment to society, the professors project their professional work towards the formulation of projects and social actions in accordance with the needs of our country.
The professors of the section are in charge of the linguistics and literature courses in the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, the Master's Degree in Linguistics, the Master's Degree in Hispanic American Literature and the Master's Degree in Cultural Studies. They also teach linguistics and literature courses in the General Studies of Letters, General Studies of Sciences and other faculties of our university.
Among the main research interests of the professors of the Linguistics subsection are the synchronic and diachronic study of Spanish (with emphasis on its Peruvian varieties), Andean languages and Amazonian languages.
The professors of the literature subsection specialize in the study of Spanish, Latin American and Peruvian literature from different historical periods, from the Spanish Golden Age, colonial literature, 19th century literature and contemporary literature. The study of discursive traditions, the construction of cultural identity and the relationship of literature with other fields of culture are based on the recognition of the heterogeneity and multicultural nature of our literature.
The Linguistics and Literature section of the Department of Humanities has been publishing Lexis, one of the main specialized journals in Latin America, since 1977. The journal welcomes original works in the various fields of linguistics, theory and literary criticism.
The coordinator of the Linguistics subsection is Dr. Héctor Velázquez.
El coordinador de la subsección de Literatura es la doctor Daniel Romero.
