Digital Archive of Peruvian Languages - PUCP

The Digital Archive of Peruvian Languages of the Academic Department of Humanities of the PUCP is offered as a space committed to the conservation, dissemination and study of all linguistic manifestations present in the territory of our country. Our archive makes available to the general public collections that record in audio and video the linguistic and discursive diversity of Peruvian languages.

The materials included in the archive have annotations and translations that allow them to be valued in all their richness. Along the same lines, the Digital Archive of Peruvian Languages at PUCP offers interested researchers a secure storage space for their linguistic materials in a variety of formats and collaborates with their digitization, when necessary.

Our archive also promotes the study of Peruvian languages through formal and informal academic events (symposia, workshops, courses, conferences) and is particularly committed to the training of indigenous linguists. We are open and willing to collaborate with researchers and students, officials and activists linked to linguistic and cultural rights, and, of course, with members of indigenous communities interested in recording and preserving their traditions, many of which are at risk of disappearing.

Services to collection donors

The Digital Archive of Peruvian Languages at PUCP offers the following services to linguists and social scientists interested in donating materials to its collection:

  1. Long-term digital storage and preservation of materials.
  2. Dissemination through networks to promote the consultation of donated materials.
  3. Explicit acknowledgement of donor data (each collection is named after the donor, each entry in the collection carries the donor's last name as a keyword, and each collection is assigned a citation form).
  4. Three levels of privacy (entries in the collection can be free to use, free to use upon registration and free to use upon donor authorization).
  5. Digitization services of materials, prior coordination with our archive team.
  6. Delivery of a donation certificate for the purposes that the donor considers pertinent.

Our collection

Our collection seeks to become an international reference for the study and knowledge of Peruvian languages and the varieties of Spanish spoken in our country.

Our long-term goal is to build a broad database that will give an account of the complex linguistic reality in which Peruvians are immersed.

To this end, we invite researchers who have studied any linguistic phenomenon in our territory to share their materials with us and our users. It is especially symbolic that these materials are preserved by a Peruvian institution. We are confident that other linguists and social scientists will agree with us on the importance of this undertaking and it will be an honor to have them as allies in this task.

Donate a collection

We understand "collection" as a set of materials in which an indigenous language or a variety of Peruvian Spanish is recorded in audio and/or video. The requirements for donating a collection to our archive are quite simple and we are willing to assist interested parties throughout the process. Interested parties may contact the co-directors of our archive to inquire about the topic and request the required forms.
